ROD MORTENSEN
Technical Director, is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Music where he studied voice, opera stage direction, and opera technical production. Mr. Mortensen taught at Modesto Junior College where he served as musical director and conductor for the Theater Department, as well as serving as technical director for productions that he was not involved with musically. As a second career, he opened a business that built stage scenery and trade show displays and rented stage lighting equipment. He sold that business several years ago and now is a technical consultant in addition to his duties with Golden Gate Opera.

PAULA LANGHOFF BARTON
Scenic Designer, is a Fine Arts Graduate of the California State University system and the University of the Pacific and has extensive design and scenic art experience. Her initial exposure to opera design was La Boheme leaving her with an abiding love of design for the Italian repertoire. Talented in multiple disciplines of watercolors, sculpture, and drawing, as well as interior design, Ms. Barton is a mezzo-soprano and has toured Europe as well as performed in Northern California with various choral societies. For Golden Gate Opera she has designed in style of Historic Realism the 1299 set for GGO's Gianni Schicchi, 1950 set for The Telephone, and 1905 set for Madama Butterfly and 1820 Carmen.

TRACY BELL
Costume Designer, has overseen the company's costumes since 2001. Her experience includes creating costumes for Montserrat Caballe and the late Luciano Pavarotti at San Francisco Opera. Many of her creative designs were the main stays for the early Victoria Secrets catalogues before landing at the San Francisco Opera in the costume department in the early 80’s. Her company, Tracy Bell Designs, has been flourishing in Marin County, for the past 30 years. She designs and creates wedding gowns, accessories and costumes and promotes and coordinates events. She is currently the Festival Coordinator at the Sausalito Art Festival when not busy with her design work. Her creative visions have dressed many well known celebrities and hundreds of locals. She translates ideas from her constant travels to her creations and continues to free-lance design and consult for many national companies. She enjoys designing costumes as it is a chance to create something beautiful and in wearing it, give life and motion to it.

JAMES ROBERT PARSONS
In Memorium: We at Golden Gate Opera express our sorrow at the recent passing of our friend, the talented Master Carpenter JAMES ROBERT PARSONS, who was vital to our Technical Department for all performances of GGO from 2004-2007, and to the creation of the scenery at Marin Cener performances. James was a a graduate of Fresno State University where he majored in theater arts with emphasis on technical theater. He began touring professionally in 1972, and, with time out for school, toured Broadway productions ever since including Sly Fox with Jackie Gleason or George C. Scott, The King and I with Yul Brenner, Zorba with Anthony Quinn, the national company of Cats, numerous companies of A Chorus Line, Peter Pan with Cathy Rigby, and the national companies of Dreamgirls, Pippin, Dancin', and Contact. While on tour as a union stage hand, James worked as master electrician, scenery flyman, and master carpenter.

JOHN JACOBS
Lighting Designer, is well known to professional performance companies as “in house lighting guru” of the Marin Center, having created the lighting for Marin Ballet and many other performing companies of Marin over the years. In his early career as Lighting Designer, he worked extensively in theatre and dance designing and implementing lighting in such places as Germany and New York City. He has done as much dinner theatre in the Poconos (as an actor, director, and Lighting Designer and Technical Director) as Henry Fonda ever did. Mr. Jacobs has a degree in Drama from San Jose State College. His professional experience includes and goes way beyond Professional Stage Electrician. He returns as lighting designer for GGO’s Double Bill, Suor Angelica with Gianni Schicchi in May of 2006.
