School Assembly: Hansel & Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck Thrill your school students with Golden Gate Opera's colorful school presentation of the fairytale opera, Hansel and Gretel sung in English. Hansel, Gretel and the Witch visit your school bringing the opera's most exciting scenes to life, connected by charming narration and with piano accompaniment. Schools may wish to create parts of the setting, such as trees or Candy House. The 45-minute performance includes Q&A with the singers. GGO also provides teachers with Hansel and Gretel Advance Study Guide containing suggestions to use the coming of the opera to your school for arts experiences and learning enhancement in regular subjects. One class period in length (35 minutes) with narrator, professional opera singers as Carmen, Micaela, Don Jose and The Toreador, colorful costumes and props and piano accompaniment. Students from your school volunteer to be in the opera performance before their classmates as Gypsies, Soldiers and Toreadors, and get to rehearse and perform alongside professional opera singers! Student Shows In-theatre student performances of full productions GGO has partnered with area school districts to bring children from disadvantaged schools to student performances. From 1998-2003, through a contribution from The Mayor of San Francisco's Every Child Can Learn Foundation GGO has been able to underwrite the attendance of 300 San Francisco public school children each year. GGO has made the commitment to hold at least one student performance of each of our public productions. Tickets to Performances Through public and private sponsorships, GGO has been able to provide tickets for in-need families and children to attend our public performances free of charge.
