ROY STEVENS, Heldentenor is featured in GGO's upcoming concert, February 29 and March 1, 2008, presented at the Marin Showcase Theatre in San Rafael, CA.  Breastplates to Pocketwaches will be a unique evening of Opera and Operetta from Germany and Austria.  Following a successful international career as a dramatic baritone, tenor Roy Stevens made his Heldentenor debut with Austria's Tiroler Festspiele, singing the Gala Opening Concert and the title role in Siegfried. He also covered Loge in Das Rheingold, Siegmund in Die Walküre and Siegfried in Götterdämmerung.

Annalisa has sung with opera companies and symphonies around the world, including San Francisco Symphony, Opera Orchestra of New York, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Dallas Opera, Sarasota Opera, Deutsches National Opera of Weimar, Wuppertal Opera, Wienerkammer Opera, Kamptal Festspiel and many others.

Originally from the Bay Area in Northern California, received her Bachelor’s Degree from Oberlin Conservatory and is a recent Masters Candidate of Boston University.  Ms. Russ has appeared with several companies throughout the United States, including West Bay Opera, Pacific Repertory Opera, the Janiec Opera Company, Mission City Opera, New England Light Opera, Intermezzo Opera, Opera San Jose, New Jersey Opera Theater, and Boston Lyric Opera.  Other roles performed include Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Flora in The Turn of the Screw, Valencienne in The Merry Widow, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Papagena and Pamina in The Magic Flute, Maria in West Side Story, Oscar in Un Ballo in Maschera, and Norina in Don Pasquale.  In orchestral works, Ms. Russ has performed as a soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Mozart’s Mass in C, and most recently as Diana in Bach’s Was mir behagt with San Luis Obispo’s Mozart Festival.  Upcoming engagements include Despina in Cosi fan Tutte with West Bay Opera and Frasquita in Carmen with Pacific Repertory Opera.

An active vocal coach, Hadley enjoys collaborations with local companies San Francisco Opera and Opera Center, Festival Opera, Berkeley Opera, and West Bay Opera.

MANUEL PAZ, Tenor
Hails from Mexico and began his classical career in sacred music in the children’s choir “ Pueri Cantoris ” in Tijuana. He has had engagements with orchestras in both Mexico and the United States. His debut in the United States was that of Alfredo in La Traviata at the Summer Opera Arts and Educational Festival in Fresno, California. In December 2005 he won second place in the California Opera Association’s International Vocal Competition. He will make his professional debut at the National Theater of Guatemala with the role of Fenton in Falstaff by Verdi. Mr. Paz’s repertoire also includes Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, Beethovens 9th Symphony, Roméo et Juliette, Carmina Burana, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria and La Bohème. Mr. Paz has studied voice with Jose Medina, Jane Westbrook, Florencia Tinoco, Dmitry Vdovin and Mary McKenzie. He has attended master classes with Fernando de la Mora, Mariano Viñuales, Martin Wright, Dmitry Vdovin and Edna Garabedian and the Moscow International School of Vocal Skill.

ANGELICA in Suor Angelica, returns to Golden Gate Opera having performed the title role in Madama Buttefly in 2005.  Other performances in 2005 include Liu in Turandot with Opera Hong Kong, the title role in Tosca with Opera Illinois, Mimi in La Boheme and Cio Cio San in Madama Butterfly with Gold Coast Opera, Zemfira in Aleko in the Festival of Russian Arts in San Francisco and with Opera Santa Barbara in Le Donne di Giacomo Puccini. Her coming engagements include with Di Capo Theatre in New York, the title role in Francesca da Rimini, with Cedar Rapids Opera Cio Cio San in Madama Butterfly, with West Bay Opera the title role in Manon Lescaut the role of Maria in Mazeppa and Ann in the Rakes Progress with the Bolshoi Opera.

Lisa has performed leading roles with Opera companies throughout California including Pacific Repertory Opera, West Bay Opera, Capitol Opera Sacramento, Cinnabar Opera Theatre, the San Francisco Camerata, The San Francisco Lyric Opera, Townsend Opera and in the world premier operas: Corpus Evita and The Woman in the Wall.  Her operatic roles include Carmen, Nicklausse (Les Contes d辿offman); Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia); Maddalena (Rigoletto); Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro) and Augusta Tabor (the Ballad of Baby Doe) She is a native of Berkeley, where she teaches voice and is a recipient of the Bay Area Performing Arts Fellowship. She is a graduate of N.Y.U. and New England Conservatory.

GENEVIEVE in Suor Angelica and NELLA in Gianni Schicchi, pleases audiences with her warm, sparkling lyric soprano voice and clear and expressive coloratura technique.  Her innovative and fresh characterizations as well as her keen musicianship and charming stage persona have enabled her to become a specialist in the Germanic, particularly Straussian coloratura roles, such as Zerbinetta in Ariande auf Naxos,Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier, and Fiakermilli in Arabella.  Other specialty roles include Gilda in Rigoletto, Nanetta in Falstaff, and Marie in La fille du regiment.
She has a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Humboldt State University.  She coaches with Maestro Monroe Kanouse, and William Yannuzzi of the Baltimore Opera, as well as with Maestro Johnathan Khuner and Joseph Smith of the Metropolitan Opera.  She has studied with Nancy Loder and now with Edna Garabedian.

SASCHA JOGGERST, Baritone,
was recently seen in the roles of Silvio in Pagliacci with West Bay Opera, Guglielmo (Così fan tutte) with BASOTI following his debut in San Francisco as Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro). With Royal Academy Opera, London, he sang the role of Amantio (Gianni Schicchi) under the baton of Steuart Bedford, and the roles of Captain and Zaretsky (Eugene Onegin) with Opera by Definition. He has also sung the title role of Eugene Onegin and one of the travellers in Britten’s Curlew River with the Conservatory of Music Lübeck. His opera credits also include scene work at The Royal Academy of Music as Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Renato (Un ballo in maschera), De Siriex (Fedora), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), The Officer (Malcolm Williamson, The Growing Castle),and Mercurio (Cavalli, La Calisto).  A native of Stuttgart, Germany, Mr. Joggerst holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Vocal Performance from The Royal Academy of Music in London and a Bachelor of Music from the Conservatory of Music Lübeck.

AMANDA MENDON JAS, soprano, is known in the Bay Area for her full lyric voice and strong dramatic presence.  She was recently seen as Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) with Opera San Jose in 2007.  Ms. Mendon Jas has also appeared as the Second Lady (Die Zauberflote) with Cabrillo Stage and as the Aunt (Madama Butterfly) with Bayshore Lyric Opera.  She will perform the role of Countess Ceprano in Opera San Jose’s production of Rigoletto in February of 2008.  On the concert stage, Ms. Mendon Jas performed the title role in Dido and Aeneas with the Santa Cruz Chamber Orchestra in 2007.  She returns in March of 2008 to perform the Pie Jesu of Faure’s Requiem.

MEZZO-SOPRANO BRYN JIMENEZ made her debut with Golden Gate Opera as a soloist in their 2006 Opera Café, and was a featured soloist in their 2007 Gala. She peforms on this years Opera Café  October 19 and 24th.   Most recently, Miss Jimenez appeared in a scenes program with New York Opera Studio, and as Cecily in La Divina and Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor for California Opera’s Summer Opera Arts and Education Festival.  Other roles include Stephano in Romeo and Juliet and Madame Z in Brother XII in the premiere of the Canadian opera, both with the Opera Studio at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, Tessa in The Gondoliers with the Fraser Valley Gilbert & Sullivan Society, and Dorabella in Cosi Fan Tutte with the Amadeus Opernensamble.

Mezzo-soprano Megan Stetson has emerged from the small confines of San Francisco as a blossoming singer.  Most recently, she performed the roles of Venus in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, as well as Ottavia in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea at San Francisco State University.  In the Yehudi Menuhin Festival this past June, Megan was a featured soloist in the world premiere of Three Songs for Mezzo-soprano and Piano by internationally acclaimed composer and pianist, Emile Naoumoff.  In the spring of 2006, on an international tour of Aix en Provence, Paris, and Rouen, France, Megan was featured as the soloist for the Pie Jesu movement of Duruflé’s luxurious Requiem.

Elizabeth F. Gentner is a professional performer working out of Sausalito, California.  She will be performing the role of Violetta in La Traviata October 26th - 28th with Capitol Opera Sacramento Davis and and in January of 2008 she will be performing Fiordiligi in their Production of Cosi fan Tutte.  
She recently performed the role of Susannah in Capitol Opera’s production of Le Nozze di Figaro.She currently studies with Sheri Greenawald, the director of the San Francisco Opera Center Director.  She recently moved from Boston, Massachusetts where she was the Soprano Soloist  at Arlington Street Church for the Mozart Missa Brevis in C (KV 220) or Spatzen Messe, Vivaldi Gloria, the Brahms Liebeslieder Waltzer as well as many other works.  As part of Arlington’s ‘Music at ASC Series’ she gave a recital performing scenes from Madama Butterfly, Norma, and Carmen, as well as other works by Verdi, Puccini and Bizet.
