Sascha Joggerst
Baritone
A charismatic and versatile performer, German lyric baritone Sascha Joggerst returns to GGO reprising his role as The Father in 2011. He has performed with opera companies in Germany, England and the US and established himself quickly as a sought-after artist. Aside from numerous recitals and concerts, Mr. Joggerst’s operatic credits include the title role in Le Nozze di Figaro and Frank in Die Fledermaus with Livermore Valley Opera, Le Dancaïre in Carmen and Perichaud in Puccini’s La Rondine with Opera San Jose, Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet with Townsend Opera, Baron Duophol in Verdi’s La Traviata with West Bay Opera, the Father in Hansel and Gretel as well as Schaunard in La Bohème and Le Dancaïre in Carmen with the Mendocino Music Festival. He was also seen as Escamillo in Carmen with San Francisco Pocket Opera, Yamadori in Madama Butterfly with West Bay Opera as well as his WBO debut as Silvio in Pagliacci and Guglielmo in Così fan tutte. A portrayal for which the San Jose Mercury News hailed him as “cocky and mellifluous”. Other roles include Silvio (Pagliacci) and King Melchior (Amahl and the Night Visitors) with Townsend Opera, Billy Bigelow (Carousel) with San Jose Lyric Theatre, Schaunard (La Bohème) with San Francisco Pocket Opera, Tiger Brown (The Threepenny Opera) with Santa Cruz Chamber Orchestra and Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro) as guest artist with Bay Area Summer Opera, following his U.S. debut as Count Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro).While in London, Mr. Joggerst sang Amantio in Gianni Schicchi under the baton of Steuart Bedford with Royal Academy Opera as well as the roles of Captain and Zaretsky in Eugene Onegin with Opera by Definition. On the concert stage, he is a dedicated Lieder and Oratorio singer. Mr. Joggerst performed recitals of Schumann’s Dichterliebe, Liederkreis and Beethoven’s An die ferne Geliebte in London as well as Brahms‘ Liebeslieder, the Christmas Oratorio (Saint-Saëns) and Vaughan Williams‘ Serenade to Music with the American Philharmonic. Mr. Joggerst has been a studio artist at Opera San Jose and a student at the International Vocal Arts Institute in Montreal, Canada. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Vocal Performance from The Royal Academy of Music in London as well as a Bachelor of Music from the Conservatory of Music Lübeck |
