Matthew O'Neill
Tenor - John Wilkes Booth
Adler Fellow Matthew O’Neill made his San Francisco Opera debut this season as Borsa in Rigoletto and appeared this season as Melot in Tristan und Isolde, El Dancairo in Carmen and Dance Master in Manon Lescaut. He was recently seen by Bay Area audiences as Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) at the Lincoln Theater in Yountville and on the Schwabacher Debut Recital Series. The tenor has sung the roles of Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos), Tamino in The Magic Flute and Golo in Schumann’s Genoveva. On the concert stage he has sung the Evangelist in Bach’s Saint Matthew Passion and Saint John Passion. In 2003 O’Neill was a regional finalist for the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. He is a former apprentice artist with Des Moines Metro Opera. A graduate of the Merola Opera Program, he holds a master of vocal performance degree from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and a bachelor’s degree in guitar from the University of Evansville. He was a first-prize winner of the Schubert Club guitar competition and a national finalist in the American String Teachers Association guitar competition. |
